Nightmare on Normal Street

There was nothing normal about last night’s Halloween event on Normal Street, but it was great fun! Here are some of my favorite characters from last night. Enjoy!

Strollin’ in the Park

My photo safari buddy, Dan, and I took a bike ride over to Balboa Park yesterday and we couldn’t help but notice the flowers in bloom. Even the cacti were blooming and attracting the bees. Enjoy!

Day Trippin’

Dan and I made a road trip yesterday to Idyllwild. The Fall colors are just stating to appear and it was a beautiful day in the mountians. We started out at Lake Hemet and Garner Valley and then made our way up to Idyllwild and Lake Fulmor. Enjoy!

San Diego Mission

Dan and I drove out to the San Diego Mission and the Old Mission Dam this morning. It was overcast so the light wasn’t the best, but a little blue sky eventually broke through the fog so we made the bast of it. Enjoy!

Del Mar Mud Run

Today was the annual Del Mar Mud Run—held at the famous Del Mar Racetrack. I had no idea that they held so many different events at the racetrack during the off season. I got there early and I wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, but folks were riding in on some pretty cool motorcycles. Perhaps they were also having a vintage bike show today, but I was there to see the mud run so I couldn’t investigate further.

I arrived at the track infield just as they were starting the first race and they already had quite a crowd. What a hoot! Folks were dressed in all kinds of attire which makes the event a lot of fun. It didn’t look like spectators could get out on the course so I headed over to the finish line to watch. They had set up a rope jump—for lack of a better name—and the runners had to negotiate a mud hole just before the finish line. Let’s just say that some folks did well with this obstacle and others… not so much.

When I was leaving the event I noticed they were also having a pet expo featuring dogs who absolutely loved jumping in the water to fetch their toys. I didn’t actually go into the event, but snapped a few photos from outside the fence. The puppies were amazing!

I hope you enjoy my photos from today!

Little Italy Festa

Today was the annual Little Italy Festa event featuring chalk drawing, music and vintage cars. Here are a few photos of the event. Enjoy!

I Look Good…

This is 9-year-old Marley. We met her at the Little Italy Festa event today and she was so adorable I had to grab a photo.

Nighttime is the Right Time

I can’t believe how quickly it’s getting dark these days. Soon we’ll switch back to standard time and it’ll be dark by mid-afternoon… I swear. BTW: I’ve never figured out why we’re still switching the clocks back and forth each year. When we grew up in the central valley we were told that it was so the farm children could milk the cows and get their chores done before school. Then the story changed to “because its saves energy.” But I digress… My point is that it’s fun to get out in the evening and see what I can capture with my camera.

The photo of the San Diego skyline was captured from the shore of Coronado Island and the “bungalow” is one of the places you can rent at the Hotel Del Coronado. Hell, I could live in one of these places… they’re stunning and right on the beach. Enjoy!

Pier Cafe

Since the clouds hung around for one more day I drove back down to the waterfront. I’ve always thought the Pier Cafe in Seaport Village was a cool old building so I snapped a few photos. Enjoy!

P.S. The streak in the sky in one of the photos is a helicopter that flew by while the shutter was open.

Steve Jobs RIP

I have been an Apple user since the Apple IIe first came out and I am deeply saddened by the death of Steve Jobs.
