Surf’s Up!

I just got back from Pacific Beach. It’s way past my bedtime, but I had to post this photo because I really like the way the water looks in this photo and I had to share. Enjoy!

Windansea Beach Redux

I was looking through some of the photos I got the other night from the Windansea Beach (a.k.a. Neptune Beach) south of La Jolla and decided to post a few more. Enjoy!

Windansea Beach

Last night I went out with my friends, Dan and Vivian, to La Jolla for some fish tacos at Wahoo’s and a photo safari. We ended up at Windansea Beach—which I’ve also seen called Neptune Beach—to catch the sunset. It’s been quite warm lately and there were lots of people on the beach—surfers, other photographers and folks just enjoying the beautiful evening.

We were waiting for the sun to set when a sea lion decided to just pop out of the waves—amongst all the surfers—and perch himself on a rock close to where we had been shooting photos. It didn’t take long for folks to gather ’round and honestly, I think he was enjoying all the attention. I have to say it was pretty cool.

P.S. I did manage to fall off a rock at the end of the evening trying to escape from a large wave. Besides a few cuts and scrapes, my camera (thank goodness) and I made it out alive :-)

Kitty!

Mother Nature simply can’t do better than this incredible animal. Nuff said…

My First Video: UCR Bag Pipe Band

Okay, bare with me here. I’m new to video, but I shot some video at the Scottish Games and wanted to post something. Be sure to turn up your sound so you can enjoy the bag pipes.

San Diego Scottish Games – Part II

I’m still going through my event photos. In the meantime, here are some photos from the athletic events at the San Diego Scottish Games. I’m sorry to say that I missed the caber toss event. And they put the hammer throwing guys in a netted cage so photos were a bit difficult, but hey… there’s always next year :-) Maybe I’ll see if I can get a press pass next year. Enjoy the photos!

30th Annual San Diego Scottish Highland Games – Part 1

Today my friends, Dan and Vivian, joined me for the Scottish Games in Vista. I had never attended one of these events before and I have to tell you… it was fantastic! There were athletic events, music, dancing, dogs herding sheep and of course, bag pipes. I shot over 700 photos, but I wanted to get a few of my favorites posted while I go through the other photos and videos.

If you’re in the Idyllwild area this Monday be sure to catch the University of Riverside Highlander Pipe Band. They’ll be marching in the annual 4th of July parade and they’re outstanding. The performed at today’s event and they’re online at www.pipeband.ucr.edu if you want to find out their performance schedule.

Also, Dan will be posting hist photos from the event so be sure to visit his photo blog at www.sandandiego.com.

Enjoy the photos!

Coronado Bridge

Well, my friend, Dan, and I went out after dinner this evening to see if we couldn’t capture a nice sunset. We headed over to Coronado Island to see what we could find. We found fog—tons of it. By the time we arrived it was pretty gray with little or no light so we started to head back home. On the way back, we noticed that the bridge was looking better and better by the minute so we parked, put our cameras on our tripods and snapped a few photos. Enjoy!

Foggy Morning

What do you do on a foggy morning? You go to the park and capture photos of flowers. At least that’s what photographer, Dave Ness, suggested I do. Fortunately, the water lilies are in full bloom in Balboa Park. Enjoy!

P.S. Dave’s an extraordinary photographer here in San Diego. You can see his work at ViewByNess.com.

Summer Is Here

Last night, Billy Ray, Dan and I headed up to La Jolla for dinner and to see if we could catch a nice sunset. After grabbing a burger at the Burger Lounge—which was delicious—we headed down to the Cove. After we finally found a parking place we were greeted with a mob of people. Summer has officially arrived! It made capturing the sunset a little more challenging as people kept stepping in front of the camera, but you know what? We had a great meal, it was a beautiful evening, it was fun watching all the folks enjoy themselves and I’ll be back another day. Enjoy!
