Masters of the Sea
Judy came out to San Diego this past week and we drove up to the La Jolla Cove. A storm was brewing and it was very windy so the pelicans were coming in from the ocean. These dinosaur-looking birds are amazing to watch. When they’re in flight they appear to glide effortlessly over the surface of the water and they can drive straight down at great speed to catch a fish under the surface of the ocean. However, I get a kick out of watching them land. While they’re incredibly graceful once in full flight, landings are a whole different matter—almost comical.
A Night at the Park
This past week Dan and I drove over to Balboa Park to see if we couldn’t find some fun shots. Here are a couple of my favorite photos from the evening.
Christmas Parades
What’s Christmas without a parade? Last weekend was the annual North Park Toyland Parade. It’s definitely a small-town parade with locals decorating their dogs, cars, motorcyles and just about anything that can be decorated with tinsel and lights. I posted some photos of the parade last week, but I was going through them again and thought this photo of the antique cars driving down University Avenue was fun.
Christmas Is…
Christmas is a lot of different things. Here are just a few from the North Park Toyland Parade.
Happy Holidays!
I just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! This Santa and tree are currently in the main lobby of the Hotel Del Coronado. Cheers!
Surf’s Up!
Dan and I went out Sunday morning for breakfast and a photo safari. We stopped in Pacific Beach to watch the surfers and then up to Windansea Beach where Dan posed for me on what we decided looked like a giant lobster rock. The weather couldn’t have been nicer and it was great to get outside. Enjoy!
Summer Daze 2011
Dan (SanDanDiego) has been going through his summer photo collection and sent me this photo. This photo brings back memories because this seal simply came out of the ocean and perched itself on a nearby rock at Windansea Beach. Also, right after this photo was taken I was smashed against the rocks by a huge wave… suffered a few cuts and bruises, but saved the camera
Finally, click here if you’d like to see the photos I got of this sea lion before I was washed away.
Just Monkeying Around…
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I got a chance to visit the zoo this week so I thought I’d post a couple of photos I like. Enjoy!
Hummingbird Aviary
Who knew there was a hummingbird aviary at the San Diego Zoo? Well, if you didn’t know, you’re not alone… I didn’t know either until my friend, Dan, found it last week. It’s located near the Children’s petting zoo. It’s not too big and tucked away so not too many people were around which makes it a fun place to go. Here are a few of my favorite photos from my visit to the aviary. Enjoy!
America’s Cup
This weekend was the beginning of the America’s Cup Series in San Diego. They’re racing 75 foot catamarans in this series and they can travel up to 30 miles per hour… that’s pretty quick for a sailboat. The series started on Saturday, but it was pouring down rain so we didn’t go, but what a difference a day can make. Yesterday was sunny and warm so we heading down to the Broadway Pier to watch the races. Here are a few photos from my day on the bay. Enjoy!
