Mexican history is dense with events involving tribes, civilizations, battles, emperors, kings, queens and presidents, and can be overwhelming to the casual reader. Because San Miguel de Allende was so important in the creation of modern Mexico, a little historical knowledge makes the town so much more
fascinating. On the right is the statue of Capitán Ignacio Allende, national hero of Mexico, overlooking the Jardín.
